About this board

A local board for people who own homes in and around Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Wake Forest, Garner and the ITB neighborhoods. Contractors, permits, taxes, yards, storms and the day to day of keeping a house standing.

It started as a group of neighbors trading numbers for a decent roofer after a hail storm and turned into a general purpose board for anyone in Wake County who owns the roof over their head. Permits through the city, revaluation notices from the county, drainage after a heavy afternoon storm, pine straw versus mulch, what the widening on a nearby road actually means for your morning. If it touches keeping a house standing here, it fits.

House rules

Keep it local and useful

This board covers Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Wake Forest, Garner, Knightdale, Fuquay Varina and the ITB neighborhoods. If a post could have been written about anywhere in the country, it probably belongs somewhere else.

Name names when you have real experience

Recommendations are the whole point. Say which company came out, roughly what it cost and whether you would call them again. First hand experience only.

No slander, no pile ons

Criticize work you actually paid for. Do not repeat a rumor about a contractor you have never hired, and do not turn a bad review into a campaign.

Politics stays in its lane

Local News and Politics exists for a reason. County commission votes, bond referendums, rezoning cases and school assignment all belong there, not in a thread about a water heater.

No advertising without disclosure

If you work in the trades and you post here, say so in your profile. Contributing knowledge is welcome. Dropping a phone number in every thread is not.

Marketplace is for neighbors

Personal sales, tool loans, plant swaps and giveaways. No dealers, no wholesale lots, no crypto anything.

A note on accuracy

People here talk about real streets, real schools and real businesses. Prices, permit rules and inspection timelines change, so treat anything you read as a starting point and confirm with the city or county before you write a check.
