Cary and Apex spots with high yield-to-cost ratio

Ray Bunn @gcretired · GarnerApr 17, 2026, 6:31 PM

Cary food options close early and can be overpriced, but I need suggestions. I am looking for a solid takeout spot near Cary or Apex where the food can survive a fifteen to twenty minute drive back to my townhouse without getting soggy or lukewarm.

I am sick of dry pizza and cold tacos. What is the highest yield-to-cost ratio around here?

Go to Dame's Chicken and Waffles in Cary. It is off Cary Parkway. You might think waffles would get soggy, but they pack the gravy and sauce separately.

If your home has poor grading like half the subdivisions in Cary, you will appreciate how well they manage the liquid runoff in those containers. No soggy bottoms.

I second Dame's, but for pure durability, you want Indian food. Biryani from Hyderabad House on Davis Drive is indestructible.

It actually tastes better after sitting in its own steam for twenty minutes. I have an app on my phone that tracks my takeout delivery times, and Indian food consistently retains its temperature best.

My dad always says that if a restaurant has a crowded parking lot of work trucks at two in the afternoon, the food is good and cheap.

He swears by Superica in Cary for fajitas, but for takeout that travels, he recommends the Greek Fiesta over by Crossroads. The gyros are wrapped tight in foil and stay hot.

Greek Fiesta is wonderful, but if you are willing to drive just a little bit north toward Brier Creek or even stay in Cary, try Sassool.

Their Mediterranean sides like hummus, tabouli, and cabbage salad do not need to be hot anyway, so there is zero stress about the drive. It is healthy, delicious, and very reasonably priced.

Sassool is so good. My girlfriend and I got a giant platter there after we spent the whole weekend pulling up old carpet tack strips. We ate it on the floor of our empty living room. The pita bread was still warm.

If you are in Cary, just go to the Q-Shack. Brisket travels fine.

Wrap the bag in an old towel on your passenger seat. Keeps the heat in. Simple physics.
