After three weekends of scraping trim I need to go somewhere with a curtain and no sandpaper. Carolina Ballet is bringing back Dracula at the Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts, opening Thursday October 15 at 7:30 and repeating through the weekend.

It is genuinely dark, not a cute Halloween thing. The flying sequence got an audible reaction out of the row behind us last time we went.

Downtown parking on a show night is the usual scavenger hunt, but the Wilmington Street side is generally easier than trying to squeeze in off Salisbury.

We have taken our grandkids twice and the older one loved it, the younger one hid in my sleeve for the second act. Ten and up is my honest guess, but every kid is different.

Learn from me and do not buy the cheapest side seats on the far left. Beautiful production, terrible sightline for anything happening upstage.

Opening night tends to price higher than the Sunday matinee for the same production. If the date is flexible, check both before you commit.

Given my handle I am contractually obligated to attend. Actual bats in this state eat mosquitoes and are wonderful, for the record.

Wilmington Street side is right, and there is usually room in the deck a block down even at curtain.
