Pullen Park lake is finally being refilled

Finn Alvarez @firsttimefinn · Southeast RaleighAug 26, 2026, 8:12 AM

N and O had a piece this morning about the lake at Pullen Park being restored after months of sitting drained. Walked past it Sunday and the bottom was still mud and pipe, so it is good to see the work actually moving.

That pond is half the reason we take the kids there. The train and the carousel are fine but they want to feed ducks. Anyone been by this week and seen water going back in yet?

Took my nephew there Saturday. Still empty then. The whole basin looked smaller than I pictured it with no water in it.

Whatever they do with the bank plantings matters as much as the water. Last time it filled in the shallow end got choked pretty fast in July.

Good. That park is a Raleigh institution.

Coming from up north, Pullen was the first place here that felt like a real neighborhood park to me. Glad the lake is not just getting written off.

still learning the clay

Anything sitting in the ground that long usually turns up something extra once they open it up. I would not be shocked if the timeline moves. Park office is 919 996 6468 if somebody wants the actual status instead of us guessing.

Called once about a different thing and they actually picked up, for what it is worth.
