Search function is acting up again

Is the search bar on this site powered by steam, or is it just me? I spent forty-five minutes last night trying to find that old thread about removing lead paint from baseboards in Oakwood. Every time I type in 'paint stripping' or 'silent paint remover,' I get zero results, or it tells me the search terms are too common. My heat gun is waiting and my patience is thin.

The built-in search engine on this software does struggle with common phrases, Hollis. I have found it much more effective to use an external search engine. If you type your search terms into Google and append site:raleighhomeowners.com to the end of the query, it will index our past discussions far more thoroughly. It is a modern workaround, but sometimes the older, simpler methods of navigating are simply broken. I hope you find the information you need for those baseboards. Preserving that original pine trim is worth the tedious hours.

Dale is right. The site search is like a clogged downspout, it just overflows and does not send you where you need to go. I tried searching for 'grading' last month to help a guy in Apex with a wet foundation, and it gave me threads about school grades. Google site search is the only way to get a clean run.

I had the same issue when I was researching sunroom contractors. I ended up clicking through page after page of the Cary sub-forum manually because the search bar told me 'sunroom' was too generic. It was a long night, but I did learn to save my favorite threads to my browser bookmarks instead of trusting the search bar.

Thanks for the Google tip, Dale! I was trying to find posts about water heaters earlier and got nothing. That site search trick is going to save me so much time.
