Need a plumber, water heater making a popping noise

Finn Alvarez @firsttimefinn · Southeast RaleighSep 23, 2026, 5:46 AM

First house, first real problem. The water heater in the garage has started popping and rumbling when it heats up. Hot water still works. Is this an emergency and who should I call? Southeast Raleigh if that matters.

Popping is usually sediment built up in the tank. Not an emergency but it means the tank is working harder. How old is it?

About 11 years, it came with the house.

Midtown Plumbing. Family owned, they came out same week for us in North Raleigh, flushed the tank and told us honestly we had maybe two years left on it. No upsell.

1912 foursquare, still not finished

CK's Plumbing replaced ours with a tankless last year. They really know tankless units, the tech walked me through the whole thing. Also do backflow testing if the city ever sends you that letter.

Midtown here too. Fair pricing and they actually answer the phone.

well and septic, no regrets
