Tiny home village for veterans in the works here

Gregg Hoyle @greenwaygregg · HedinghamAug 25, 2026, 9:30 AM

Saw reporting yesterday about a tiny home village being developed in Raleigh aimed at giving veterans permanent supportive housing. Not a shelter, actual small homes people keep.

I have hauled enough water damage claims through rentals around here to know how thin the bottom of the housing market is. If this works it is a better model than another waiting list. Posting the useful part: Wake County Veterans Services is 919 857 3899, office at 1420 S Wilmington St, if you or somebody you know needs housing help now rather than whenever this opens.

Thanks for putting the phone number in the post instead of making people dig. I have had two tenants over the years who would have qualified for that office and had no idea it existed.

I will say the neighbors question comes up every time one of these gets sited. Usually the objections are about parking and density and not much else once people see the plans.

Genuinely did not know Raleigh was doing anything like this. Good to hear.

Small footprint builds are not cheap per square foot, that is the part people miss. Still cheaper than the alternative of nobody being housed.

If they need furnishings or yard work help once units are done, post it. I would show up for a Saturday.

Second that. Easy thing for this board to actually do something with.
